Vale team captains (L to R: Colton Friend, Drake Montgomery, Agi Tamez, Tyson Aldred) walk to midfield to meet the Ontario captains, August 30, 2013 at Frank Hawley Stadium in Vale, Oregon.
Congratulations to the 2013 team and coaches on an outstanding season. The most fun I had following a Viking football team since 1975. My weekly updates were usually via the Malheur Enterprise, Argus Observer and phone calls with my brother, but I did make it to three games this season. I enjoyed the opportunity to capture some of the season and appreciate the access granted by Principal Mary Jo Sharp and Athletic Director Tom Snook.
Vale receiver Agi Tamez goes out for a pass during the season opener against Ontario, August 30, 2013 at Frank Hawley Stadium in Vale, Oregon. Vale won the game 29-21.
Viking Pride – At the 2011 Vale-Ontario game I kicked off my “Your Vale Viking” project to have people express in writing what Vale Football meant to them. This is what my brother wrote: “A good football team can energize a whole city – large and small. – Bob Mizuta, Class of 76″. I think this year’s team brought that energy back – it sure did for me.
Mardene and Dr Robert Keveren watch the Vale LaGrande football game from the north end zone, September 20, 2013 at Frank Hawley Stadium in Vale, Oregon. Vale won the game 48-13.
