Eagle fire department member Nick Piccono reaches out to a young spectator, as he runs in full fire fighting gear in the First Responders Team Challenge during the Main Street Mile sponsored by Saint Alphonsus in downtown Boise, Idaho on June 22, 2012.
Ten years ago Jeff Allen said he wanted to do something to help eradicate prostate cancer and Ryan Canning said he wanted to put on a downtown race. When the two came together the result was the Main Street Mile. With the support of all the sponsors including presenting sponsor, Saint Alphonsus, and physician support from the Idaho Urologic Institute, 2012 marked the ninth year of the Main Street Mile helping to promote prostate cancer awareness and education and to provide free screenings to men in the Treasure Valley.
The mission of the event continues on, but for most of the participants they just know it as a fun event that let’s them play in the streets of Boise. Six different race waves plus the fun to watch Mascot Scamper, provides an event where everyone can participate. Here are a few images from the different race waves.
Fourteen mascots participated in the Mascot Scamper event with Bessie the Cow (powered by Dusty Black) winning the spectator popular race. Proceeds from the Main Street Mile are used to promote prostate cancer awareness and education and to provide free screenings to men in the Treasure Valley.
